Maurice Kirya is a Ugandan singer, actor, film director, humanitarian, and entrepreneur.
Having performed in more than 35 countries, Kirya has built an international reputation for his signature sound—a rich blend of jazz, soul, and contemporary influences fused with his self-created Ugandan folk style known as Mwooyo.
As an actor, Kirya appeared in Disney's acclaimed film The Queen of Katwe, starring Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo, where he portrayed Theo, one of the film's principal antagonists. He also plays one of the lead roles in the Netflix thriller The Girl in the Yellow Jumper, and appears as himself in The Last King of Scotland, starring Forest Whitaker and Kerry Washington.
Beyond the stage and screen, Maurice is a passionate youth advocate and humanitarian. For more than a decade, he has used his platform to inspire and empower young people, while collaborating with UNHCR to support and protect the rights and well-being of refugees. He is also the founder of The Maurice Kirya Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting literacy through arts and music education in Uganda.
His commitment to wildlife conservation led to his appointment as a WildAid Ambassador, alongside internationally recognized figures including Jackie Chan, Tony Jaa, and Li Bingbing.
Maurice is also the Founder and CEO of Piz & Pots, a creative company specializing in branding, events, visual storytelling, and audio production.
As a filmmaker, Maurice has directed several productions, including the award-winning short documentary A Man Like Sam, among other acclaimed film projects. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Kirya
